Lindsay Lohan's recent hospitalization to have her appendix removed may have lead to her trip to rehab. Lohan was given painkillers after her surgery, which sources claim she abused by mixing them with drinking binges. When her partying began to interfere with her work, her friends and family got together to have an interventions, says Star mag..

An insider tells Star, "[Lindsay] left the hospital [after her appendectomy] with several painkillers on her; that was her downfall - she was using the painkillers and continuing to go out and drink. She woke up each morning exhausted and feeling sicker than ever." As Page Six stated, Lindsay hit rock bottom when she passed out in the hallway of the Beverly Wilshire early on Tuesday morning following Prince's Golden Globes afterparty.

Her family was already worried about her because of her lackadaisical work ethic - and so were the producers of her current project I Know Who Killed Me. Star's source says, "The movie executives said they had a major issue with getting her insured for the film and threatened to sue her for between for between $3 million and $5 million for the delays her constant absences were causing on the set."

Between her blackout and the movie problems, Lindsay's camp had had enough. The snitch says, "Lindsay's family and other people she works with sat down with her [Tuesday] night and convinced her she had to go into rehab to save herself professionally and personally. She couldn't afford to have another letter come out about how she was being unprofessional and missing work on the set." The source revealed that Lindsay's rehab clinic, Wonderland Center, will allow her to leave during the day for filming.

Meanwhile, a reporter from OK! magazine contacted Lindsay on Wednesday shortly after she checked in to Wonderland. Lindsay said, "I'm doing so great…I'm fine. Nothing to worry about. Thank you so much for checking in, I do appreciate it. I'm actually watching American Idol at the moment and laughing so hard!"

Maybe the second time’s the charm for Lindsay Lohan, who a friend says is settling well into her rehab treatment.

"She’s happy where she is and is just taking time to herself to learn and be okay," stylist friend Nate Newell told PEOPLE at Wednesday’s Los Angeles opening of the flagship Diesel store on Melrose Place. "I’ve been in touch with her and she likes it."

After a weekend of partying following her DUI citation, Lohan checked into Promises treatment center in Malibu on Memorial Day.

"She’s so much in the public eye 24 hours a day that she’s gotten so caught up," Newell explained of the factors contributing to Lohan’s ongoing struggle. "I think she surrounds herself with good people generally, but all the pressure that she’s around has created this alternate universe in a way and it’s hard for her to stay grounded."

Although Lohan, 20, had checked into the Wonderland Center in West Hollywood in January, her continued partying after her month-long stay only intensified suspicions of substance abuse.

"Wonderland is an outpatient service so she was back and forth from the [I Know Who Killed Me] set, but this time she’ll totally be there [at inpatient center Promises]," said Newell, who plans to visit the actress over the weekend. "She just needs to be away from everyone and not get attacked by the paparazzi."

"She’s doing really, really well," he added. "She probably should be there and it will be the best for her. I think [now] she’s ready for it."

Hopefully this rehab centre is more helpful for Lindsay.

Victoria Beckham, Cameron Diaz, Robin Williams, Jessica Biel and Bruce Willis were among the celebrities poised to pass the popcorn at Sunday's 16th annual MTV Movie Awards, but Lindsay Lohan planned to pass the show.

The actress, scheduled to be a presenter of the ceremony's distinctive 'Golden Popcorn' trophy before she checked into rehab last week, was skipping the telecast, her publicist confirmed Friday.

Lohan sought treatment after a wild Memorial Day weekend during which she crashed her Mercedes-Benz into a curb, was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence and was photographed slumped in the passenger seat of a friend's car.
